Phone-up versus internet lead
Two different starting points: a caller who wants an answer now, and a form submission that has to be turned into a conversation.
A phone-up is already a conversation. Someone chose to dial, they are on the line, and the whole opportunity happens in the next few minutes. An internet lead is a request for contact, often sent to several stores at once, sometimes with a placeholder phone number, and it has to be converted into a conversation before anything else can happen.
The handling differs accordingly. A call is about control of the conversation and an appointment before the caller hangs up. A lead is about speed, reaching a real person and answering the question that was actually asked.
Why it matters for a sales manager
Measuring the two together hides both. A blended set rate lets strong phone handling cover for slow lead response, or lets good lead work disguise a phone nobody answers on Saturday morning. Split the reporting and the fixes separate too: one is usually coverage and skill on the line, the other is usually speed and who owns the first reply.
