Dealer group

A company that owns multiple dealership locations, often across several brands and sometimes several states.

A dealer group operates more than one rooftop under common ownership. Groups usually centralize some functions, such as accounting, marketing, human resources and technology decisions, while leaving daily sales operations to each store.

Groups that cross state lines have to account for different rules in different places, including recording and telemarketing requirements.

Why it matters for a sales manager

Groups can compare stores against each other, which is the most useful benchmark a manager can get because the brand, the systems and the processes are shared. When one rooftop sets appointments at a very different rate, the difference is usually a practice that can be copied.
