DMS (dealer management system)
The dealership’s core system of record for deals, inventory, accounting, service and parts.
The DMS is the operational backbone of the store. It holds vehicle inventory, deal jackets, customer records, repair orders, parts and the accounting ledger, and it is the system finance and the office close the month from.
Most other dealership software connects to the DMS in some fashion, since it is where the authoritative record of what actually sold lives.
Why it matters for a sales manager
The DMS is the answer to what happened, while call and lead systems answer what was said. Keeping that distinction clear prevents a common mistake: treating a flag or a signal from a conversation as though it were a recorded outcome.
