Payment shopper

A customer whose real question is the monthly number rather than the price of the vehicle.

A payment shopper is buying a budget line. They may not know or care much about the selling price, the term or the rate as long as the monthly figure fits, and they often have a number in mind before they call anyone.

Handled openly, this is workable information: the payment tells you which vehicles and which structures are realistic, and it lets a rep steer toward units that fit rather than discovering the mismatch after a drive. Handled by quoting a number blind on the phone, it becomes an argument at delivery.

Why it matters for a sales manager

Payment questions get treated as a trap to dodge, which is why so many calls end there. The better move is to find out what the customer needs the payment to do, confirm that your inventory can get close, and use that as the reason to book a time. The number itself still has to wait for a credit decision and a real structure.
