CRM writeback

Sending what happened in a conversation back into the customer record, so the CRM reflects the call instead of a rep’s memory.

A writeback puts information into the CRM automatically: that the call happened, how long it ran, what the customer asked for, what was promised, the next step and its date. Done well it lands on the right customer, in the right fields, without creating a second record for the same person.

The alternative is a rep typing it, which happens unevenly and usually late. What actually gets typed tends to be the good calls, because logging a conversation that went badly is a chore nobody volunteers for. That is the opposite of what a manager needs to see.

Why it matters for a sales manager

Every report you run comes out of the CRM, so a CRM that contains only what people felt like entering produces confident numbers about a partial store. Writeback also protects the relationship during handoffs, because the next person to open the record can see what was already promised instead of asking the customer to explain it again.
