Coaching moment

A specific point in a real conversation where a different choice would likely have changed the outcome.

A coaching moment is narrower than a bad call. It is the sentence where the rep answered the price question with a number instead of an invitation, or the pause after the customer mentioned a trade where nobody followed up, or the goodbye that happened without an ask.

Useful coaching moments are short, they are tied to a point you can replay, and they come with what should have been said instead. A moment without an alternative is criticism with a timestamp on it. The best ones also repeat, because a habit that shows up in five calls this week deserves more of your attention than one awkward exchange.

Why it matters for a sales manager

Time with a salesperson is scarce, and most of it gets spent on general advice that cannot be practiced. One moment, one recording, one better sentence is something a rep can use on the next call and something you can check next week. It is also more persuasive, because nobody argues with their own voice coming out of the speaker.
