Autonomous workflow

A sequence software runs end to end without a person at each step, inside limits that were set before it started.

An autonomous workflow completes a routine job on its own: confirming tomorrow’s appointments, reaching out to the customers whose vehicles just arrived, working a reminder sequence for people who did not show. The steps are defined in advance, the conditions for stopping are defined with them, and the result is recorded.

The word autonomous describes the absence of a click, not the absence of a decision. Somebody decided what the workflow may do, which customers it may contact, what it may say and what makes it stop and wait for a person.

Why it matters for a sales manager

The work that gets skipped in a busy store is the repetitive work: confirmations, reminders, the third follow-up. Handing those to a workflow frees your people for the conversations that need judgment. The risk is scale, since a workflow that is wrong is wrong with every customer at once, so start narrow, read the receipts for a week and widen only what you checked.
