Follow-up gaps · calls and texts

Quote sent without next step.

A price, payment or out the door figure goes out and the conversation stops there, with no time set and no reason to reply.

"Here is the out the door number on that one. Let me know what you think."

What it sounds like. Synthetic example.

Why it matters

A number with nothing attached becomes a shopping tool. The store paid for the lead, did the work of building the figure, and handed the customer the one thing another store needs to beat it. Worse, the conversation ends on the customer's side of the court, so the rep now waits for a reply that usually never comes and calls the lead cold a week later.

What to do next

Send numbers with three things attached: what the figure includes, what it still depends on such as the trade, credit or term, and two times to finish it in person. End with a question rather than let me know. If the quote went out earlier this week with nothing attached, send the missing half now while the customer still remembers the conversation.

How to coach it

Pull three quotes the rep sent last week and read only the final message in each thread. The pattern is easy to see and hard to argue with. Write one closing sentence together that follows every number, then check next week's quotes for it.

Questions about this signal

Should we stop sending numbers over text?

No. Send them with a next step attached. The problem is the silence after the figure, not the figure.

What is a good closing line after a quote?

A question the customer can answer in a word, plus two specific times to finish it in person with the vehicle ready.

Can I find quotes that never got a reply?

Yes. The thread is marked where the number went out, so you can open it and see what followed.
